"Falling Flat On Your Face"



When you fail completely, and everyone can see you fail, you "fall flat on your face".

Example: "How did your first day of class go?" Reply: "I fell flat on my face."



People laugh at you or feel sorry for your embarrassment when you make a mistake in front of everyone and "fall flat on your face".

Example: "I was alone on stage and I forgot the words to the song." Reply: "What happened?" Answer: "I fell flat on my face."



You fail at what you are trying to do in a very embarrassing way when you "fall flat on your face."

Example: "Without training for a job like this, you would fall flat on your face."
