Find Something Out The Hard Way ( one learned it by making a mistake ... )

"Find Something Out The Hard Way"



You "find out the hard way" when you learn by doing the wrong thing and having a bad result.

Example: "I told him not to stand in the doorway, but he wouldn't listen, so he found out the hard way."



When you do something and the results are bad, you "find out the hard way" what to do and what not to do.

Example: "You will find out the hard way to not ask John for help."



Finding out the hard way is learning what to do by doing the wrong thing and then having the wrong result.

Example: "I found out the hard way not to get in his way when he is in a hurry."

Example: "They did not listen when we told them to watch out for bears when camping." Reply: "They found out the hard way."
