To be all things to all people is to do the things that make everyone happy. Example: "Public relations is a tough job. I have to be all things to all people." Another example: "My boss is impossible. He wants me to be all things to all people." Another example: "She tries to be the perfect mother, the perfect wife, the perfect employee.." Reply: "You can't be all things to all people." Another example: "I am sorry but I cannot be all things to all people."
